How this calculator works
A carrier label quote is often lower than the true cost to ship an order. A seller needs to account for fuel surcharges, address-related fees, packaging, insurance and handling before setting a checkout delivery charge.
What the calculation does
Apply the entered fuel percentage to the carrier base rate only, then add the specified flat shipping and fulfillment expenses. Compare the total against shipping collected from the buyer and calculate the net unrecovered cost.
Important limitations
This is a calculation from user-entered charges, not a live carrier rate or tax quotation. Your carrier may apply fuel to different charge categories; check the actual service contract.
Common questions
Does this fetch FedEx or UPS prices?
No. Enter the quote or negotiated rate from your own carrier and apply the applicable fees.
Are fuel fees applied to flat surcharges?
This simple model applies fuel only to the base freight rate; adjust the base if your carrier uses a different formula.
How should I interpret a negative shipping recovery?
It means the amount charged to the buyer is lower than the entered shipping and fulfillment cost.
