How this calculator works
Knowing the approximate number of labels on a roll helps purchasing teams compare suppliers and avoid mid-run shortages. This estimator uses the wound roll's annular cross-section and the thickness of the entire label-and-liner material.
What the calculation does
Estimate web length from the roll's outside and core diameters, then divide by the combined label length and gap. Enter thickness for the complete construction, including liner and adhesive, not just the facestock.
Important limitations
This is an engineering estimate, not a supplier specification. Winding tension, liner construction, core tolerances and unusable end material can change the final count.
Common questions
Does roll width affect the number of labels?
For one label across a roll, width cancels from this estimate. Multiple labels arranged across the web, die-cut waste or unusual winding need a different calculation.
What should I enter for material thickness?
Use total caliper including release liner, adhesive and face material. A small thickness error can materially change the result.
Can I use this for direct thermal or thermal transfer labels?
Yes, as a starting estimate for either, provided you measure the total material thickness and use the appropriate pitch.
