How this calculator works
A small amount spent on a box, protective fill, tape and labels can add up over thousands of shipments. This tool consolidates those material costs and direct packing time so sellers can refine their order margins and purchasing plans.
What the calculation does
Sum the packaging materials used by one order, apply the expected waste allowance to the materials only, then add paid packing time at your loaded hourly labor rate. Multiply by order count for a batch total.
Important limitations
Not a carrier postage calculator. Use actual consumption and supplier prices; labor should include employer costs if relevant. Excludes shipment postage, returns, rent and taxes.
Common questions
Do I need to include packing labor?
For a meaningful direct fulfillment cost estimate, yes. Enter zero minutes if you only want material costs.
Does the waste percentage affect labor?
No. Waste is applied to material costs only, not to paid labor time.
Should postage be entered as a material?
No. Postal and carrier fees can be estimated separately with the Shipping Surcharge Calculator.
