◈ On-device processing

01 · Set up your group

Add two or more people to begin.

No email addresses, registration, or server uploads needed.

02 · Record an expense

Who shares this cost?Uncheck anyone not included.

Equal splits divide every cent. Shares support ratios like 2:1:1. Exact amounts must add up to the bill.

03 · Record a repayment

When someone pays another person back, record the amount to update balances.

Data stays on this device. A share link contains a snapshot with your group's names and expenses: send it only to people you trust.

How to use this tool

Name your group and add participants. Record each bill, select who paid and who shares the cost, and choose equal, weighted or exact split amounts. Live balances show who should receive money or pay it back. Record repayments as they happen.

Quick steps

  1. Enter a group name and currency, then add the people sharing costs.
  2. Add a bill, choose its payer and included people, and divide it equally, by shares or exact amounts.
  3. Review live balances and suggested repayments, record payments, then export a report or share a snapshot link.

Practical tip

Check your chosen currency before entering expenses. Use Export JSON for a portable backup. Sharing a link creates a readable snapshot, not live multi-device collaboration; avoid sharing personal finance details publicly.

Common questions

How does the group expense splitter calculate who owes whom?

For each expense, the payer receives credit for the full amount and each included participant owes their assigned share. Recorded repayments also adjust balances. The total balance always nets to zero.

Can I split an expense unequally?

Yes. Select Equal for even splitting, Shares for weighted amounts such as 2:1:1, or Exact amounts when each person's share is known. All calculations round to cents and the individual shares always sum to the bill.

Is this free, private and without a login?

Yes. The tool works in your browser and saves only in this device's local storage. Exported backups and share links are shared only when you choose; anyone who receives a snapshot link can read its details.

Does sharing let my friends edit the same group?

No. A shared link contains a snapshot at the time you created it. Each person opens their own copy; changes do not automatically synchronize across devices.

Does changing currency convert exchange rates?

No. Currency selection changes the labels only. Existing amounts are not converted; use a consistent currency and calculate conversions separately before entering an expense.

Split group expenses fairly, down to the last cent

Use this free group expense splitter when friends share a trip, housemates buy groceries, colleagues split an event or one person covers several restaurant bills. Record different people paying for different purchases, then include only the participants who actually used each purchase. You can divide a bill equally, specify relative weights or enter each person's precise amount.

Worked example: who owes whom?

Alex pays $90 for dinner shared equally by Alex, Bea and Charlie. Bea pays $36 for a taxi shared by all three. Charlie pays $42 for tickets shared only by Alex and Charlie. The resulting group balances are: Alex gets back $27; Bea owes $6; and Charlie owes $21. Two repayments settle the example: Bea pays Alex $6, and Charlie pays Alex $21.

What the balances mean

A positive balance means that person paid more than their share and should receive money back. A negative balance means they owe money. When a repayment is recorded, both balances adjust. Suggested transfers are practical net settlements, not a guarantee of the mathematically smallest number for every possible situation.

Privacy, sharing and backups

Your entries are stored in your browser's local storage only. Clearing browser data may erase them, so export a JSON backup if you need to keep the group. Sharing creates a self-contained, readable link snapshot. Recipients get independent copies, not a synchronized group. Never paste that link publicly when it contains private names or amounts. Printed reports can be saved to PDF using your browser's print dialog.
