How to use this tool

Pick a week and household size. Choose example recipes or enter your favorites with quantities and original serving counts. Schedule breakfast, lunch and dinner, adjust servings for individual meals and review a grocery list that combines ingredients and subtracts pantry stock. Save an editable shopping checklist, CSVs and a backup.

Quick steps

  1. Choose a week and set the number of people eating.
  2. Select an example recipe or save your own with ingredient amounts and original servings.
  3. Assign meals and adjust servings. Enter pantry amounts, then print or export the combined shopping list.

Practical tip

Keep ingredient names and units consistent for accurate consolidation. Kilograms and grams combine, as do liters and milliliters; cups, tablespoons and pieces stay separate. Always check recipe allergens, food storage, package sizes and store prices before shopping.

Common questions

Can I make a weekly meal plan with a grocery list for free?

Yes. Plan breakfast, lunch and dinner for seven days with editable recipes. Your grocery list updates from all assigned meals. No account, paid recipe database or subscription is required.

Does it adjust ingredients to my family size?

Yes. Enter the recipe's original serving yield and the servings needed for each planned meal. Ingredient quantities scale proportionally and identical compatible items from multiple meals are combined.

Can it subtract food I already have in my pantry?

Yes. Enter an on-hand quantity beside a grocery ingredient. The list deducts that stock from the planned total, never showing a negative purchase requirement.

Does it combine grams and kilograms correctly?

Yes. Grams and kilograms are compatible and combined. Milliliters and liters combine too. Cups, pieces, teaspoons and tablespoons are kept separate, because not all measurement conversions are safe without ingredient-specific information.

Can I print a shopping list or download it to Excel?

Yes. Print / Save PDF uses your browser's print dialog for the calendar and shopping list. Download separate Excel-compatible CSV files for groceries and the 21 calendar slots.

How do I keep my recipes and meal plans after closing the page?

Recipes and separate weekly plans save in your browser's local storage. Download a JSON backup to transfer devices or protect your work before clearing browser data. Changes do not synchronize between devices.

Can I use my own recipes instead of the built-in dishes?

Yes. Add, edit and remove recipes with serving yields, cooking notes, ingredient quantities, units and store categories. The provided dishes are examples, not a complete nutritional or allergy-checked recipe service.

Does it calculate supermarket prices or nutritional requirements?

No. Optional price entries estimate only the needed quantities that have prices. The tool does not retrieve live supermarket pricing, calculate nutritional targets or verify allergen safety.

Free weekly meal planner with automatic grocery list

Plan breakfast, lunch and dinner for seven days without losing track of ingredients. PackFormulas combines a reusable recipe collection, a household servings setting, separate weekly plans and a grocery list that intelligently combines compatible quantities. There is no subscription, no account, and no paid grocery API.

How to create your family's meal plan

  1. Choose the calendar week and set the typical number of people eating.
  2. Choose an example recipe or add your own dishes, with ingredients, units and an original recipe yield.
  3. Assign recipes to each meal; adjust the servings for a solo lunch or bigger dinner.
  4. Review the combined grocery list and subtract quantities you already have at home.
  5. Tick purchases at the supermarket and export a printable PDF, shopping CSV or complete backup.

Worked example: scaling servings and subtracting pantry stock

A recipe for four uses 400 g rice. When two people eat it, the recipe uses 200 g. If you schedule the same meal twice for two people, you need 400 g total. Enter 150 g rice as pantry stock and the shopping list shows 250 g still needed. Serving changes update the list automatically.

Ingredient measurements: what does and does not combine?

The planner combines g with kg and ml with liters. Cups, teaspoons, tablespoons and pieces remain separate, because converting dry ingredients by volume into mass without a specific ingredient density can give misleading results. Use consistent ingredient names and verify pack sizes and substitutions when you shop.

Plan meals with a shopping budget

Enter optional prices for the same quantity units shown beside each grocery item. The cost estimate covers only items with an entered price, after the amounts already in your pantry have been subtracted. It is not a live supermarket quote and may understate your final bill if items have no prices.

Print, reuse and back up your week

Each calendar week is saved separately in your browser, and your recipes remain available across weeks. Grocery and meal calendar CSV files open in spreadsheet programs. Print / Save PDF uses your browser's print dialog. For another phone or laptop, export JSON and restore it there. Browser storage is not an automatic cross-device sync service.

Important limitations

The example meals are demonstrations, not medical, allergy, nutrition or food safety advice. Always check ingredients for dietary needs and food allergies. This tool does not check expiry dates, synchronize accounts, order groceries, or fetch current store prices. Your entered details stay in local browser storage, while website hosting and advertising may make network requests covered by our privacy policy.
